Based on Shakespeare's Richard III

Shakespeare?s historical plays are frescoes, monumental dramatic works whose popularity and success have never waned over the years. They captivate audiences not only through the richness and virtuosity of their writing, but also and above all through the originality of their storylines, which feature a succession of alliances, murders, betrayals, coronations, oaths of friendship, depositions, battles, marriages?a veritable epic, a saga, a series!

Since the creation of Richard II, one of my main preoccupations has always been to make the works heard, to make them accessible to everyone, to challenge preconceived ideas and the notion that Shakespeare is complicated! Translating Shakespeare today means offering all audiences a new perspective, a rediscovery of the work, an approach to the text in which literary rigor is at the service of a popular theater accessible to as many people as possible, especially young people.

It is from this commitment to young people that the Mon royaume pour un cheval (My kingdom for a horse) project was born! For me, this now mythical phrase, uttered by Richard on the battlefield, sounds like a call, an injunction to go out and meet young people, to move the performance venue, to tell this story as close to them as possible, in the heart of their high schools: in their student hostels, their playgrounds, their campuses, their gymnasiums, their classrooms? Wherever it's possible for four young performers to set up their desks, a loudspeaker, and form a large circle within which to tell this remarkable story.
