From time immemorial, this territory between sea and mountains, Spain and Italy, sunrise and sunset, has been a place of passage via ancient roads or a network of roubines, lagoons and canals. Little by little, people settled here and learned to make the most of it. This is the beginning of a long story that leads here and now, to you.

And now, imagine Hannibal?s elephants leaving Iberia, crossing this country on their way to Trebia. Imagine the Tibbonides, a family of Jewish scholars and humanists driven out of al-Andalus (present-day Spain) by the Almoravids, settling in Lunel to found a great Talmudic school. Imagine boats loaded with precious salt sailing up the Lunel canal and filling the granaries of a flourishing town...

Such was and remains Lunel: a land of welcome and passage, of refuge and prosperity. A land where nothing is impossible, not even catching the moon in its nets.

Between history, anecdotes and legends, will you be able to tell the difference?
