The story begins 10,000 years ago, a long way from the Petite Camargue, on the borders of Europe and Africa, when nomadic hunter-gatherers became sedentary and at the same time cattle breeders and farmers.
The neo-rurals then tried to domesticate the mighty bull, object of worship in many civilizations, hero of several Greek myths and ornaments of Zeus.
The veneration of this totemic animal has spanned the ages, reaching as far as the Rhône delta, where the bull has been established since the 15th century. It is embodied in the "raço di biòu", a line of animals bred not for docility, but for fighting spirit.
From the manades of the Petite Camargue, where they are raised by the gardians, to the arena where the bulls and the raseteurs now run freely, the visit will reveal an unsuspected universe: the culture of the Bouvine. After the guide has told you all about the heyday of the Lunel arena, you'll be taken backstage to the usually inaccessible areas such as the toril, the ring and the little chapel.
Finally, you'll discover that the contemporary setting of the arena, designed by architect Jacques Ferrier, also hosts concerts, seminars and many other types of events for a wide variety of audiences.
