What does it matter, you may say, since in truth everyone loses their memory and no one leaves anything behind, except a few rusty tools, a few obsolete machines and, as everyone knows, heaps of grey dust in no particular order that tell us nothing about the content, the time or the reason for their deposit.
Yet it is not forbidden to turn this nothingness into a form of eternity. On the contrary, it's all about recognition, an artistic claim to paternity and maternity or, to put it another way, an exaltation of filiation.
I'm only the daughter, a descendant of the heroes ? at my brother Dominique?s precious side ? but I want to be fully so. I admire. I'm the one who looks, but I trust an artist friend to reveal, play, interpret, exalt, fire the artificiality of my gaze. To give new life to my father, Marius, this true conductor of a complicit nature, without concealing in him the little Mariano. to "Druidize" my mother, Marie, without forgetting her birth as Maria de Librilla. To turn their living everyday tools and reformed machines, their trees and beasts, into accessible rays of art, within reach of humanity.
This sensitive, discreet artist, respectful of the place of men, women, animals, materials and their respective lights, is Yves MANDAGOT, and his magic formula is photography.
Does the eternity of a photograph last longer than that of an olive tree?
Others than me will say so, when they in turn place on our stones other stones drawn from the alluvial deposits of the Vidourle, which flows at our feet, the Rhône, Ardèche and Gardon, to which I am now allied, and the Guadalentin, which fed my ancestral lands.
For the moment, at our side, Yves artistically seals the stone that gives this cradle its name:
LIEUDIT MARIE & MARIUS "
For an interpretation of Sylvie Garcia-Carre?s intention
